GOSFORD R.S.L. FISHING CLUB
CLUB ACTIVITIES
Fishing Competitions in General
Our fishing competitions are decided on a points system. Points are awarded on the basis of one point per fish plus various points (depending on species) per kilo of fish caught plus 20 or 40 bonus points (dependent upon competition) for fishing. Points accumulate over the calendar year and the Club Champion Angler trophy is awarded to the person with the most points for all competitions at the end of the year. Likewise, trophies are awarded to the Champion Lady and Junior anglers. The angler scoring the most points for fish caught within the “Inside” boundaries and the angler with the highest average points score per outing are each awarded a trophy.
Best of species weights are recorded for all competitions and trophies awarded to the heaviest of each species weighted during the year.

Other Activities
1. The monthly meeting of the fishing club executive is held at the R.S.L. on the last Monday of the month commencing at 7:30pm. Non committee members are welcome to attend.
2. The Fishing Club conducts a fish raffle in the R.S.L. club every Thursday night. A good number of members usually attend so come along & get to know us. This is also a good opportunity to find out where the fish are biting and also find out if anyone has a berth for you in upcoming competitions.
3. Fishing club presentation night. This event is held early in the New Year for the presentation of trophies from the previous year and is always a very enjoyable night.
4. The club has a trip away on the second week in November. For the past few years the venue has been Crowdy Head / Harrington.
5. Various social events and trips away, which do not appear on the fishing club calendar, are held throughout the year.

The Fishing Club Boat
The fishing club owns a boat for use by members. The boat is a 5-
Various rules govern the use of the boat.
In essence the rules require that:
Any member is welcome to crew on the boat after first being familiarised with the boat's safety features and guidelines.
In order to skipper the club boat on any outing, be it a competition outing or a private outing, a prospective skipper must first qualify to do so by holding a Waterways boat licence and completing the "orientation" procedure laid down by the club rules.
Fees are payable for use of the club boat. The fees are currently set at $30 for competition days as per the club calendar and $70 for private outings. The boat must by thoroughly cleaned after use and also be refuelled at the user’s expense.
If you are interested in either crewing on the boat or becoming a skipper please contact the Boat Captain for more details.
For Those Who Own a Boat
The fishing club pays for a group membership of the Central Coast Marine Rescue. No fees are required to register your boat with Marine Rescue. Please provide details of your boat, boat trailer and tow vehicle, together with a picture (electronic if possible) of the boat, to the Safety Officer. He / She will issue you with a "Gosford R.S.L. (boat number)" call sign and forward your details to the Marine Rescue for registration. Marine Rescue will allocate you a Marine rescue “CC???” call sign which is recognised state wide. If your boat is equipped with 27MHz &/or VHF radios please log in with Marine Rescue prior to each outing and log off upon return. Alternatively, you may log in and log off through the Marine Rescue NSW App for iPhone and android.
On competition days, we monitor channel 96 & converse with each other over that channel or mobile phone.
If you have a spare berth for a particular competition, and wish to take someone out with you, please call into the club on the Thursday prior to see if anyone wishes to crew for you.
The decision on who crews with you on your boat is always yours.
If you choose to take other members out on your boat, please ensure that your boat insurance policy includes adequate personal accident liability coverage.
For Those Who Do Not Own a Boat
If you wish to fish from a boat on a competition day you have the following options:
Either skipper the club boat or crew on the club boat. You have the option skippering the boat after qualifying as a club boat skipper as discussed above. To crew on the boat you must have been familiarised with the boat as discussed above. In either case, you must book a berth on the booking sheet on the club notice board in the snooker room. Please contact the Boat Captain for further details.
Alternatively, crew for another club member on their boat. This is generally organised at the club on the Thursday night prior to the competition. Call in and ask if anyone has a berth available. Cost of bait, fuel, etc. are generally on a shared basis. However, please check how your skipper wishes to distribute costs.
You may also fish from the shore. For those with the skills, this can be a viable alternative to boat fishing. In fact, our club champion a few years ago caught the majority of his fish from the shore and showed all the boaties how it should be done.
Junior Anglers
Children and grandchildren of fishing club members are automatically members of the fishing club and can weigh in fish for competition.
